Went home last night after work with the intention of finishing the sanding on a 6'0 drew anderson I've been fixing up for my nephew, my brother dropped it round and it was missing the centre fin and had a decent gash in the deck near the front edge of the tail pad, I'd fixed all that and had added and extra thin coat of filler on the bottom near the fins due to some cracks and so that where the roving on the new fin ended it would blend nicely into the bottom. So anyway, smashed about three beers when I got home and then went out to sand it smooth, the 180 grit i was using in the sander was going a bit slow for my liking so I swapped to something coarser, that was working beautiful until I sanded though the glass at the stringer due to the double concave - BAAaahhhhhhhhhhhhh faaaarrrkkkkkkkk So, back to it tonight with the cloth and resin... maybe I'll have the thing finished by the end of the weekend... or next weekend. Damn kid will get a much better first board than the council throw out door that I learned on...
What was your first board like??

Yeah, so actually my first board was one of them mesh covered polystyrene things, fmd you could get a rash from those bastards. I'd spend my xmas holidays surfing the little peelers that the summer NE swells would push into Toowoon bay on the cenny coast. Every now and again a decent NE swell would push in and there'd be "big" waves in the bay, well big for a little grom on a foamie anyway - good times! Pretty sure that foamie is still in mum and dads garage in good working order!

faaarrrrkkkk....just realised my first board was over 40 years ago!!!
Summer 1972....a home made piece of shite 5' 10" single fin.
3 surfs in and I ripped the fin out. was a sign to trade it in on a brand spanking new Midget Farrelly 6' 0".
spent every cent I had and then borrowed some more so had no money left for a wetsuit. surfed that first winter in a discarded and ripped to the buggery short john I found in the rubbish bin out the back of the Age surf shop in Cronulla. sewed the torn shoulder strap together with fishing line and wore a Penshurst Marist Brothers footy jersey (ummm....dunno where I got that) underneath to stop the fishing line tearing into me skin.
and I were a skinny bugga as well, so there weren't no excess to keep warm like today.

Just bought this ol' slab for $32, depending on how bad it turns out to be it'll either be another board for the nephews (lets face it the younger of the two older ones will probably attempt to surf it, or the drew anderson down the driveway) or if I can manage to clean it up quite well it'll be auctioned off to raise money for cancer care and research by my board riders club at its annual charity classic next april/may. www.ebay.com.au/itm/160924658176?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649Tail looks nasty...

Picked up that little 80's slab on the weekend, doesn't look worthwhile for an auction, but is an easy fix for the nephews... its a full on 80's shape, about 5'8" by about 20" in the middle 3" thick and probably 15-16" wide at the tail. I reckon it'll be a cinch for the younguns to get up and riding on this one. I reckon if I was 10kgs lighter I could probably ride it...
also got a quote for a new Takayama Model T noserider, $1900 delivered... yeah I'm gonna pay it, when I have the cash together and the space to keep it... I'm wondering if the price has gone up since the guy died??

hey Wands bowt 18 months ago was driving to Briz and what do you think I found lying beside the highway totally undamaged and in a full on FCS cover. an AVISO carbon fibre hollow construction Donald Takayama In The Pink nose rider. retailing in the states for around 2.5G scored. did search forums and papers for lost boards and advertised it here as a lost board but no one came forward so now it's mine www.avisosurf.com/DT9-0Pink.html
