Gotta tell ya Balders, even I'm surprised by the level of bandwagoning, where were all these c**ts when we played Turkey and Iraq 18months to 2 years ago??? the Turkey game may as well have been played in Ankara for all the Aussies that turned up!!
On the night that we beat the Jappos I was in Surry Hills watching the game with the few mates from the Cove that arent in Germany (sleeping in forests, drinking copious stein-loads of cheap german lager and hiding in the toilets on intercity trains to avoid having to pay for a ticket...) when the game was over we partied at the joint we were at for about 25minutes afterward, before heading off to grab a cab, as me and the missus walked thru Belmore park at Central station we could hear horns in the distance, as we got closer to george street the horners got louder and more frequent, when we finally got to george street the place was a farkin carnival, c**ts drivin up and down hangin outta cars, people all over the road singin and dancin, as we got closer to town hall more and more people were coming down the road from the circular quay end until finally the street was closed off because there were people all across the road, the poor old coppers didnt seem to be prepared for it at all, it was all in good fun, no hooliganism just celebrations. Oh well, I'll enjoy it while it lasts. As for Sydney FC selling out Aussie Stadium, well I happen to be privvy to some info; Sydney FC have already pre-sold more season tickets and memberships so far for this season (doesnt start until August 27) than they sold in the whole of last season, and the first match is bound to sell out as its a grand final rematch between Sydney and the Mariners. The A-League should easily beat the Super 14 for crowd averages this season, and should start to get closer to the NRL figures, at the end of the day crowd figures dont mean as much as TV money and it looks like the A-league now has both with good crowds and a lucrative deal with fox sports, and foxsports starting Foxsports3 in time for the A-league season kickoff... sokkah kulcha is here to stay c**ts!
so... yes balders i have a flag on my car, plus I also have a 1.5m wide one hanging up in the Lounge room alongside my roos posters...
Bring on the croats and lets see if we can recoop(sp?) some of the tax dollars we spent on getting Josip Simunic, joey Didulica and Anthony Seric good enough to ditch the green and gold to play for those Nazi croats... fuckin traitors, it'd be justice for the roos to punish those croatian c**ts and send em home early to wonder what coulda been...
KKKkaaaaaarrrrrrrrrnnnn 'roooooSSS!!!!!!

and news just in; Jimmy Barnes will be recording the new Sydney FC anthem (with help from some of The Cove lads) called "Sydney till I die", it is reported by those that have heard the rough demo that its 0% cheese and 100% rock... I have my doubts, but it will be interesting nonetheless.

have never said i'm a fan of AFL??? perhaps we should shelve debate for another 12 months and see how far your 'beautiful game' has excelled in the gate take as opposed to this year, and whether your 'glamour' club('s???) can survive another 12 months of ever increasing debts against diminishing returns without another bail out from lowy, et. al. your games 'a-league' is a far cry from your games 'world cup', cannot see the bandwagon making many stops outside 'a-league' games, at least not before it's empty??? I aint saying the collapse of the A-league isnt a possibility, but I will say that at this stage in time, things are looking good for the future, a very good TV deal for the A-league should see plenty of money going to the clubs (keep in mind, that this money is almost always way more important than what your gate takings are, although I do understand that the two are linked). Add to this Foxsports deal to show all non-world cup socceroos matches including friendlies and Asian Cup matches. Ive already mentioned that SydneyFC memberships for season 06/07 have already outsold 05/06 and thats 2 months before kickoff and before any mainstream media advertising about memberships has been done, advertising for memberships will be implemented during the preseason cup starting shortly after the world cup concludes. The FFA and melbourne victory are so confident of getting solid crowds that they have moved the SFC Vs Victory games to the Telstra dome. And to go back to the Asian cup and Australia joining the Asian confederation; well the fact that the Socceroos will now be playing meaningful matches year round means that a strengthening of performances on the pitch, and a maintaining of public interest off it will be a reality. As for the Lowy “bail out”, don’t believe everything you read in the paper, Lowy’s bail out is a thinly veiled grab for power and control, I sat next to 25% stakeholder Peter Turnbull at the SFC presso nite, and he said to me then that he didn’t expect the club to come close to breaking even for 3-5years, and he was there for the longhaul, also to contrast Lowy’s “bailout” is the rumoured potential investors being turned away by the Lowy faction, there are investors out there, but when someone like Lowy wants control then he gets it, it appears to everyone (I little birdy even told me that people inside the FFA concur) that it’s a clear conflict of interest, unfortunately proving this through legal means would be difficult, lowy maintains that its not his investment, but his sons, blind freddy could see that Franky and sons are one and the same, proving it legally would be hard and expensive, so for the meantime we put up with Lowy being the puppeteer, and when he crosses the line the fans will go into smear mode. As for “diminishing returns”… theres more bucks going into soccer in Australia than ever before, so I’m not sure what your on about. I’ll agree that the Socceroos bandwagon will lose most of the punters before the A-league gets em, but I never expected that the bandwagoners were the target audience anyway, sure they can be part of it, but what the A-League needs is the true supporters to pledge their allegiance and for this foundation to spread the word and interest amongst the uninitiated, something that seemed to be working very well before the Socceroos bandwagon was in its full motion. But anyway, I’m happy to discuss again in twelve months time, confident that “the beautiful game” will be alive and kicking on.

yeah balders those flags give me the shits as well - people just love being told what to think don't they. (by the way pretty sure they came free with one of the sunday papers a few weeks back).
I watched the Japan game - was good viewing and I'll keep watching their games from now on till they get knocked out - but you're not gonna see me driving around with a bloody flag sticking out of the car.
I reckon to impact the a-league they'll have to at least get through to the knock-out round. A quarter final berth'd seal it pretty well.
Still reckon they've got a bit of work to do though to get the profile up and they can't pay for Gus Hiddink every world/eurocup. I'll still prefer NRL over it any day.

tis a bit of fun getting together as a nation and dumping shit on another country in the name of sport and based on the performance in the city after Japan, what event is gonna get a heap of our pop. together without stabbing each other? bandwagon? thats what its all about. has anyone watched a track meet, a swimming final or a decathlon since the olympics. neither have i. make it yearly and it might have some flow on, but i'm happy with em all at about 4 years, too much frothing goin on. gimme a sly slab by myself anyday.
