Nonsensical bollocks:As far as broadscale tropical patterns go, a strong eastward propagating MJO signal and westward moving Kelvin wave have reduced La Nina tendencies in our longitudes.....with the result of weaker tradewind flows and suppressed convection in the Coral Sea. It's likely to be early Feb before the next active phase of monsoonal conditions arrives if the MJO resumes in phase 1 sometime this week.
Whilst cyclogenesis is not strictly tied to the active phases of the MJO is does provide a useful indicator. We'll take a closer look at these patterns on Wed as well as the unfolding short range scenario. Make friends with your local backbeach
