surfed the local yesterday from a bit after 7am till 1.30pm.....caught some damn nice ones including a couple where the takeoffs tested me girlyman rating.....
came in and was putting the board on the car and noticed that a fair portion of the bottom of the board is now stress marked.....cobwebbed as Nubby aptly described it....
neva had this happen before and the question is: a) can it be repaired (it's on about a third of the bottom of the board.....the blank doesn't seem ta be affected) b) if it can't be repaired and I keep ridin' it....is it only a matter of time till I crease/snap it....
and now ya can bring on all the smartarse "I'd be stress marked too if ya was riding me", etc comments.....
anyhow....before I go luggin' it half way round the world again I'd like ta know what the prognosis be for it.....

Has heaps of stress marks all over the bottom of the nose area for the last year balds.......given it many a thrashing since then and its been good as gold. So i reckon you'll be fine.
But if ya wana get it fixed.....i'd imagine ya just sand back the cracks and re-glass 'er

it's supposedly 6oz + 4oz.....but I wouldn't be surprised if it was only 6oz as it's a shitload lighter than my last board which was definitely 6+4oz.....

Has she a gloss coat on her Balders? That to me looks like resin fractures and not glass fractures. It should be ok though as gunt says. The reason it has happened, well IMO anyway, is from the board flexing (eg. nose and tail coming up as the centre goes down), and with the extra resin on the board (filler and gloss coats being pretty thick and not having good elongation properties) the fractures have occured. The glass itself will withstand a pretty serious bend before it will fail. You could possibly get it sanded back and re coated but it would hardly be worth the effort. Then again everything i just wrote could be crap and it will break next surf...
Hope this helps mate ;D

hahahahaha.....yeah it does have a gloss coat and that explanation stands ta reason.....as where it's been repaired previously and the gloss coat sanded back a bit is where the fractures stopped.
anyone else got an opinion as I'm headin' out on Friday and don't want another "Fiji" experience....

hahaha... i have been reading up on resin specs lately. Elongation, Heat distortion temperature, curing ratio's in relation to barcol readings, tensile properties, flexural limitations…the list goes on Nubbs..

what if ya got it rubbed back and then added a 4oz patch in the effected area with some filler to smooth and blend it? a bit of extra weight wouldnt be too bad by the sounds of it.
My newest board seems to take a beating more than my previous log, the lighter glass job makes a huge difference, the deck looks like a fat chicks arse after a hail storm, my boney feet combined with some rather silly float atempts have taken its toll, as a consequence I been a surfin a little bit more conservatively lately.
